About Squirrel Hill

Squirrel Hill is a friendly, community-oriented neighborhood located approximately a mile east of the Carnegie Mellon campus. It is easily accessible by the 61a, 61b, and 61c bus and within reasonable walking distance to campus as well. The main thoroughfares are Murray and Forbes Avenue. Many shops, boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants line the stretch between Forbes and Forward Avenues, as well as Forbes to Shady Avenue. Squirrel Hill is also conveniently located near the 376 Highway, and about a ten minute drive from downtown Pittsburgh. The nearby Frick and Schenley Parks afford many recreational activities, including golf, tennis, rollerblading, and ice skating, and frisbie throwing. Be sure to read (on our website) the local organizations that make Squirrel Hill the thriving community that it is today
Both Squirrel Hill and Shadyside are about equal distance from CMU and may be reached by shuttle. Rents are slightly lower than in Oakland or Shadyside. Squirrel Hill has a mixture of single family houses, duplexes, and small apartment buildings
